Regulations

Dear Squash players,

The Finnish Squash Association hereby invites you to the Finnish Junior Open 2018, taking 
place from Friday 14th to Sunday 16th of September 2018 in Helsinki, Finland. 

• Only entries made by or endorsed by the player’s national associations can be accepted. 
All MNAs must provide an official contact person from the Federation who will be responsible 
for all entries from that country.

• Entries should be sent ONLY by e-mail.

• Closing date is Friday the 31st of August 2018.

• The tournament will start at 15.00 hrs on Friday, 14th of September and all participants must 
be prepared to play at this time.

• Boys and girls u19 are registered as a PSA Closed satellite-event.

• The Finnish Junior Open is part of the European Junior Circuit.

FINNISH JUNIOR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018

as part of the EUROPEAN JUNIOR CIRCUIT 2018/2019.


DATES
From Friday September 14th to Sunday September 16th.
Matches are expected to commence on Friday at 15:00 hrs and the prize giving ceremony
will be on Sunday at appr. 16:00 hrs.

VENUE
Talihalli, Huopalahdentie 28, Helsinki, Finland

CLOSING DATE
The closing date for entries is Friday, August 31st 2018. The official entry form must be sent by email to the Finnish Squash Association, This is a mailto link.

CATEGORIES
BU 19 max. 32 players GU 19 max. 32 players 
(Both U19 classes are PSA Closed Satellite events)
BU 17 max. 32 players GU 17 max. 32 players
BU 15 max. 32 players GU 15 max. 32 players
BU 13 max. 32 players GU 13 max. 32 players

Players are allowed to enter only one category. All players are guaranteed three scheduled
rounds.

ELIGIBILITY
The Finnish Junior Open is open to all players under the age of 13, 15, 17 or 19 on the 16th of September 
2018.
All players must have an active, paid-for SPIN (squash player identification number) to participate.

SEEDING
The seeding will be carried out using the ESF Junior Rankings valid at the closing date and in accordance 
with ESF Junior Circuit Guidelines.

MATCHES
All matches will be played as best of five games (PAR 11 to 2 clear points), under the rules of the WSF.

REFEREEING
All players will be expected to mark and referee matches. Organizers will be prepared to help inexperienced 
players to referee.

BALL
The Dunlop Pro ball will be used. (White ball on the glass court)

PRIZES
Prize money in the U19 Boys/Girls categories 1st 150€, 2nd 100€ and 3rd 75€
Trophies will be awarded in all categories. 

EYE GUARDS
According to ESF rules, all players must wear approved Eye Guards when entering a court either 
practice or a match during the event.

INSURANCE
Players enter and play in the tournament at their own risk. Neither the organisers nor the ESF 
accept any responsibility for injury arising from participating in the event. Players must 
their own insurance.

All enquiries regarding accommodation must be addressed to the Finnish Squash Association.

ENTRIES
Only entries made by or endorsed by the player’s national association will be accepted.

All entries must provide the name of a contact person from the official federation. The named 
responsible person must be an official representative of the association and will be responsible 
for all entries from that country. The organisation is allowed to restrict entries according to 
guidelines.

PAYMENT
The package fee must be paid by bank transfer (net of bank charges), no later than the closing date.

Please mark payment clearly with: FJO2018 and include your association’s name.

DRAWS
The seeding and times of first matches will be sent to national associations. The finalised draws 
will be published at the venue and put on the internet at the start of the event.

The entry fee is 55€. including one tournament T-shirt:

A person not participating in the event but wishes to take the package, will pay 155€.

The event complies with the European Junior Circuit Guidelines – a copy of which is available 
on www.europeansquash.com-all participating MNAs should make sure that all relevant 
people (including coaches, managers and players) are aware of the Guidelines and their 
requirements.

CANCELLATIONS
The costs for hotel packages cannot be refunded for any cancellations received on or after 
13th of September. For cancellations between 2nd – 12th of September, only a 50% refund 
will be made (less all bank charges).

TRANSPORT
The transportation from / to the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport is included in the package fees. The
flight schedule should be informed at the latest on the 7th of September to the Finnish Squash 
Association by e-mail.
Please note that the transportation service is only available to those players who have bought 
the Hotel Package.

WITHDRAWALS / ESF PENALTIES
E4.
a) If a player makes a late withdrawal from a tournament (2 days or less before the start date), 
a doctor’s certificate confirming injury/illness must be provided to avoid penalties. The medical 
certificate (with a translation in English) must clearly state the player’s name, date of birth 
and the nature of the illness/injury; the certificate must cover the date of the relevant 
and must be sent to the ESF office within two days after the final day of the tournament 
(email: This is a mailto link; fax +44 1424 774879). Any player making a late withdrawal 
not supported by a medical certificate will receive zero points for the tournament which will
count as one of their 4 best results for the rolling 12-month period and will be taken into account 
when dividing the points to obtain the ranking average. This penalty will be applied automatically
unless the ESF office receives a doctor’s certificate within two days of the final day of the tournament.
If a player commits this offence for a second time within a 12-month period, he/she will be banned from 
the ESF Junior Circuit for a period of 12 months.

b) If a player has entered a tournament and fails to turn up, he/she will receive zero ranking points 
for the tournament. These zero points will count as one of the player’s 4 best results for the rolling 
12-month period and will be taken into account when dividing the points to obtain the ranking average. 
This penalty will be applied automatically. If a player commits this offence for a second time within a 
12-month period, he/she will be banned from the ESF Junior Circuit for a period of 12 months.

c) If a player fails to play out all scheduled matches for any reason other than illness or injury, he/she 
will receive zero ranking points for the tournament. Illness or injury must be verified by the tournament 
director and, if possible, by medical certificate sent to the ESF office within two days of the final day of 
the tournament. If zero points are awarded, the points will count as one of the player’s 4 best results 
for the rolling 12-month period and will be taken into account when dividing the points to obtain the ranking 
average. This penalty will be applied automatically. If a player commits this offence for a second 
within a 12-month period, he/she will be banned from the ESF Junior Circuit for a period of 12 months.
